e. ashley dean-gulbranson:

EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND

p1440 is thrilled and honored to announce E. Ashley Dean-Gulbranson as its new CEO. As a tested senior professional, Ashley’s relentless drive, passion, and motivation has led to a successful career in a variety of fast-paced businesses. Her eighteen plus years in the sports, start-ups, and events industry, ranging from non-profits to for-profit organizations, gives Ashley an intimate understanding of operational and leadership principles.

Most recently, Ashley served in a leadership role as the VP of Programs and Development for Science of Sport, a 501(c)3 educational non-profit. During her tenure, Ashley was a change agent and was responsible for implementing operational efficiencies across national programming, developing new fundraising and revenue streams, streamlining internal processes, as well as influencing the strategic vision and company culture. While at Science of Sport, her passion for the non-profit environment strengthened, reaffirming her commitment to social impact and community involvement.

Prior to joining Science of Sport, Ashley was part of the initial leadership team at Sports Academy, a multi-purpose, world-class training facility located in Thousand Oaks, California (eventually known as Mamba Sports Academy). She worked collaboratively to help develop branding, budgeting and forecasting models, growth strategy, operational expectations, programming, and contributed to the mission, vision and values of a dynamic start-up environment. Throughout her employment, she served in numerous leadership roles ranging from General Manager to Senior Director of Business Development and Sales.

Ashley is an avid sports enthusiast and an athlete for life. In 2002, she graduated from Dartmouth College as a two-time captain for the Women’s Volleyball Team, where she held league and team honors, as well as set numerous program records. In 2006, Ashley received her MBA from Northeastern University.
Upon graduating from Dartmouth, Ashley began her coaching career which included national and international volleyball coaching experience at the youth, junior and collegiate level. Her experience has ranged from Division I Collegiate Volleyball Coach to Youth Program Director and Tournament Director at Texas Tornados Volleyball Club in Houston, Texas.

Ashley attributes her professional growth and leadership style, as well as her entrepreneurial spirit, to her many years on the court, as a player and a coach. She naturally gravitates towards sports organizations that support and champion the next generation of female leaders.

For reference, the photo is of Karch Kiraly (player) and Doug Beal (head coach) and myself in my hometown of La Jolla, CA (c. 1983), the winter before the USA Men’s National Team beat Brazil for the gold medal match in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Ashley’s leadership expands to numerous board roles; currently serving as President of WISE Los Angeles (Women in Sports and Events), a nationally established membership-based non-profit that provides professional development, mentorship, and career advice for women in the business of sports. As President, she leads a Board of twelve women and oversees the vision, strategy, and general operations of the organization, serving 1000+ local members on an annual basis. She recently completed three-years as Chair of Friends of Dartmouth Volleyball Advisory Board. Under her leadership, the Advisory Board set three-consecutive fundraising records, as well as grew alumnae engagement and participation. Lastly, Ashley is an active Board member for the SCGA Communications and Marketing Committee, as well as the Natasha Watley Foundation, established by two-time USA Softball Olympian Natasha Watley. Ashley is a 2016 recipient of Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce – 40 Under 40 Award.

She resides in Southern California with her wife of twelve years - Erikka, and their two-year old son - Deacon. They maintain an active and adventurous lifestyle and share a love for international travel. (Ashley has a goal of visiting fifty countries by the time she turns fifty.)
