When did you start playing volleyball?
I started playing indoor volleyball in six grade and played club volleyball up until sophomore year in high school. I started playing beach volleyball freshman year just for fun but fell in love! This year is my first year playing year round beach for a club and I love it!
Why did you make the switch to beach volleyball?
I like it so much better. In the sand you get so many more touches and get a lot more control over the outcome of the game.
What did you think the first time you stepped on the sand?
I had been playing indoor and only knew how to hit the ball as hard as I could. That was my game plan for everything my first year of beach! As I’ve grown in skill and volleyball IQ, I find the “cat and mouse” part of the game to be so much fun!
Where do you train and what do you do to stay in shape?
As the only beach volleyball player in Maryland, I have to travel quite a bit for training, outside of just me and my dad and our bag of balls. I am currently practicing with Sinjin in North Carolina and am fortunate to get to train some in Florida as well! I do jump training two days a week at Perfect Performance and lift at home two additional days.
What pre-match rituals, habits, or superstitions do you have to do before you play?
For my first game I like to get super warmed up with dynamics, bands, and ball control. I do a quick breathing exercise and get out there to compete!
Who or what inspires you to play well every time you step on the sand?
My parents are a huge inspiration for me on the court. They have sacrificed so much for me to be able to compete and work for goals. I never want to
What is your favorite thing to do in your down time outside of school and volleyball?
I really like music and have tried to teach myself to play guitar. I also love to spend time with my family and friends whether it’s a night in or out!
Give us one weird fact about yourself!
I am strangely good at copying accents!
